life must always start anew

mgmt

Greetings from SF. These past 3 days, I've fallen into terrible sleeping patterns, bought a pair of slouchy boots, eaten incredible fries and become rather existential, as is the norm on holidays. Something about the thrill and the loneliness of being in a city where no one knows your name. SF is much more of a city than LA. We're in downtown, Union Square, which reminds me of New York; at least the New York I know from movies - all sidewalks, traffic junctions, billboards, tall buildings. Everywhere you turn, a staggeringly huge store. I've already been to almost everything. H&M, Gap, UO, Anthropology, Forever 21, French Connection, etc. Union Square is prom heaven (and UO has a flapper section, complete with hats - pity).

Went to seaside today (Thought of the Kooky Kooks). Bought tons of saltwater taffy, lots of different flavours piled in barrels. Strolled past a man with a pet mouse, cat and dog all sleeping one on top of the other - paid a couple of dollars to take pictures of them. Happened upon "Musee Mechanique", a fascinating free museum of antique arcade machines, the kind where you get your fortune read or the puppets dance or a little scene plays out with figures in a diorama. Ferris wheels made of toothpicks and such. There was a lovely French execution scene where someone got beheaded. Was dying to get photo taken in old-school vintage photobooth, but was not allowed because it cost 3 bucks.

Walked around Fisherman's Wharf, encountered seagulls that are like half a metre tall, for serious. Came to a den of seals lounging around on a pier, barking their heads off. Tomorrow, probably heading to the California Museum of Science. It sounds quite epic and I hear they have an albino aligator. Have taken a ton of pictures, but cannot post as yet due to shitty internet connection. Wait for it.
